The Kia EV9 has been crowned the winner of the 2024 Car of the Year Award. Earlier this month, the UK Car of the Year Awards (UKCOTY) announced the winners of their 7 categories, where the EV9 took home the Large Crossover award.

The category winners were all put forward for the ultimate accolade: the prestigious UK Car of the Year title. We’re delighted to announce that the Kia EV9 won, coming out on top above all other award-winning vehicles.

As our most generation-defining electric car yet, we’re thrilled the EV9 received such fitting and respected recognition. The EV9 is designed to set new standards, and we’re proud to see this in action.

From Best Large Crossover to Car of the Year

It’s an honour to announce that the Kia EV9 has won the UK Car of the Year Award 2024.

The UK Car of the Year Awards (UKCOTY) are an independent and esteemed set of awards, voted for by 30 experienced professionals from across the UK. The judging panel is made up of some of the most well-regarded voices in the automotive industry, including a host of motoring journalists from publications like Top Gear, EVO and The Telegraph.

“We’re delighted that the judges agree just how impressive the EV9 is. The recognition is made all the more significant, having been judged by some of the UK’s most influential and respected journalists from across the automotive, business and technology industries”, said Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK.

At the beginning of the month, UKCOTY announced their “magnificent seven”; the winners of their 7 category awards. This included the Kia EV9, which took home the sought-after title of Best Large Crossover in 2024. The EV9 was in good company here, as previous winners of the Large Crossover award included iconic models like the Land Rover Defender (2021) and the Jaguar F-Pace (2017).

But the success didn’t end there. All seven winners then battled it out for ultimate recognition as Car of the Year. The Kia EV9 triumphed, fending off fierce competition from the likes of the BMW i5 and the Volvo EX30, to be named the overall Car of the Year 2024.

John Challen, co-chairman of UKCOTY commented on the landslide victory: “The fact that nearly half our judging panel chose the Kia as the UK Car of the Year 2024 is a massive vote of confidence in what is a seriously impressive and hugely appealing car.”

The Kia EV9 is now available to order, so you can discover everything the EV has to offer first-hand.

The Kia EV9: The shape of things to come

Driven by innovation, infused with style and fully powered by electricity, the EV9 is breaking new ground in sustainable driving. John Challen, co-chairman of UKCOTY, remarked that the EV9 “could be the vehicle that gets more drivers out of their petrol or diesel car than any other model”.

The EV9 exterior is designed to demand attention. The large crossover sports a bold, futuristic design, with stand-out cube headlamps and 21” GT-Line alloy wheels. The ultra-modern aesthetic continues inside, with a spacious and intuitive interior optimised for convenience and comfort.

“The EV9 shows Kia’s seemingly limitless ambition knows no bounds. A great option for large families, featuring six or seven seats and plenty of flexibility to adapt to load-carrying requirements”, said Alex Grant, a fleet-focused journalist.

The large crossover EV also boasts our largest battery yet, which enables an impressive electric range electric range of up to 349 miles* on one charge. This didn’t escape the judge’s attention, as Carwow Managing Editor Paul Barker described the EV9 as “the first car to combine ability to carry seven people with a genuine usable range”.
