They do – but electric motors are quite efficient and only turn a tiny fraction of the energy fed into them into waste heat, vibration, or noise. The sound of the motors is therefore quite subdued even under heavy acceleration or at full speed. That said, pedestrians will still hear you approaching thanks to the Virtual Engine Sound System or VESS – and you’ll still get auditory feedback from your vehicle through the Active Sound Design or ASD, which lets you pick the custom engine note that you like best.

Privately bought EVs have a maximum grant of €3,500 is available for qualifying new M1 (passenger car) battery electric vehicles (BEVs) when purchased privately. Approved EVs with a full price of more than €60,000 and less than €14,000 will not receive a grant. The full price of the vehicle to the customer includes all optional extras, paint, delivery and any other chargers but excludes any incentives such as grants or rebates. The grant amount will depend on the list price of the vehicle.

Charging a Kia in Ireland costs roughly €15 for a full charge at home (approx. 24 cents/kWh) or as low as €2.26–€12.26 overnight, while public charging via the Kia Charge app costs €0.50–€0.76/kWh, depending on your plan.
