Use smart power assistance

Extra power for low-emission driving with no plug-in recharging needed. By cleverly pairing a Smartstream 1.6 liter Turbo 150 PS petrol engine with a 48-volt lithium-ion Polymer battery, Kia’s mild hybrid system in Sportage can reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emission levels. What’s more, the integrated ‘e-system’ recovers kinetic energy during deceleration phases to provide torque assistance when accelerating.

Starting, torque assist, cruising

Battery power helps the engine work more quietly, adding torque and using less fuel. The engine is started by the ‘e-system’ to ensure a prompt and smooth start. During acceleration or uphill driving, the ‘e-system’ provides torque assistance by taking energy from the battery. When cruising at constant speed, the combustion engine partially recharges the battery if the charge level is low.

Mild hybrid technology lowers fuel costs and emissions with no extra effort to you! On models with iMT 9 , when you lift your foot from the throttle and let the car coast the engine switches off, resulting in fuel savings. When decelerating or braking, the energy generated by the vehicle motion recharges the battery. When decelerating to a stop, the combustion engine turns off automatically to save fuel.
