Local company

Naza Automotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (591026-M), located in Gurun, Kedah, comprises an assembly plant, two-storey office, a test track, allocated lots for vendors and suppliers, staff accommodation and recreation facilities on a 140-acre parcel of land.

With an annual capacity of 50,000 units per-annum, Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) currently produces Kia, Peugeot and Citroen vehicles for the Malaysian market as well as for export.

While NAM’s operations in Gurun officially began in May 2004, the company itself traces its roots to the “Look East” policy that was conceived by former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad almost three decades ago. At the time, many students and engineers were sent to Japan and Korea to pursue higher education, technical know-how in various industries including the automotive industry and to incorporate the Japanese and Korean labour ethics and discipline.

Numerous students sent there are the engineers who later became the backbone of NAM. Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin’s dream of Naza’s own assembly plant became a reality. Today, the plant, from its management to its labor workforce consists of locals dedicated to producing vehicles that are equal in standard to the quality abroad.

The assembly facility in NAM incorporates areas designated for body welding, fully automated painting assembly and pre-delivery inspection of the units and accessories. There is also a test and simulation track which includes equipment used to assess the performance, endurance and quality of each unit rolled out.

On September 2011, NAM celebrated the production of its 150,000th vehicle, a Naza Forte 1.6SX, after 7 years NAM rolled out its first vehicle, a Naza Ria.

A part from that, NAM ensures that the needs of the staff are well taken care of with housing and other infrastructure with recreational amenities available.
