Safe Towing Practices for Electric Vehicles

How to tow a EV safely

  • The best way to tow an electric vehicle is by loading it onto a flatbed truck.
  • If a flatbed truck is not available, you can use a jigger to lift either the front or rear wheels and place the other wheels on a dolly to avoid contact with the ground.
  • During loading or position adjustments, the vehicle can be moved short distances of up to 10 metres at a speed of 5 km/h or less, with the shift position set to Neutral (N) and the parking brake released.

Cautions

  • When towing, ensure that the engine is turned off to prevent the activation of side airbags in vehicles equipped with them. The airbags may deploy if the vehicle tilts and the engine is on.
  • Avoid towing with the drive wheels on the ground to prevent motor components damage or fire hazards.
  • For safe and proper towing, it is recommended to use a Kia Service Centre, dealer, or other professional towing company.
The availability and operation of features may vary depending on the model, trim, and region. For detailed information, please refer to the owner’s manual for your vehicle.
