In May 21, 2008, a very powerful earthquake struck Sichuan, China. It was a disaster of catastrophic proportions. Many lost their lives, and many more lost their homes. Kia Motors did not stop at providing the region with a relief fund. We dispatched some 300 members of the Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers who visited temporary shelters and worked with Habitat for Humanity to build houses. Over the summer and winter of 2009, we completed the Kia Village, which consists of 23 houses in the villages of Yangping and Changzhen in Pengzhou, Sichuan. Lee Sung-hun, a student volunteer, commented, “Seeing how every brick we laid and every dab of mortar we applied came together to form a house, I realized the value of hard work. I will never forget this volunteer experience, which was the greatest experience of my life.”
