Sorento is equipped with safety systems that are designed to help minimize injuries when an accident is unavoidable. An advanced system of airbags is designed to help protect occupants. Dual front airbags and seat-mounted side airbags guard the driver and front passenger. Side curtain airbags help protect occupants in the front and second rows, and they are complemented by a sensor designed to deploy the airbags in certain rollover situations. Sorento is also equipped with safety systems to help you avoid accidents. Click the symbols to learn more.
The foundation of an active safety system, ABS helps to provide vehicle control when stopping in difficult conditions like wet or slippery roads.
Electronic Stability Control provides you with improved directional stability, which helps you maintain better control in difficult driving situations. ESC monitors and assists in the control of key vehicle functions. It then brakes individual wheels and reduces engine power accordingly to attempt to help you maintain your intended course.
The Electronic Brake-Force Distribution system uses a network of sensors to determine and apply the appropriate braking pressure at each wheel, helping to enhance your control.
When stopped on a steep hill, a vehicle may roll once the driver releases the brake. Hill Assist Control helps by gently applying the brakes for two seconds while you move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator
Downhill Brake Control is particularly helpful on steep slopes. Using the Anti-lock Braking System, it holds your Sorento’s speed steady, up to 5 mph, so you can concentrate on steering.
The advanced Traction Control System can sense wheel spin during acceleration. When it does, it uses a combination of engine power and brake force to transfer power to the wheels that have the most traction, providing both increased control and enhanced responsiveness.
This system includes air-pressure sensors located at each wheel. If a tire reaches a specified low air pressure, a warning light will alert you.
NOTE: Even with the Tire-Pressure Monitoring System, always check your tire pressure on a regular basis.
Each door is reinforced with steel beams to absorb impact energy and deflect side-impact force. Both the A and B pillars are reinforced to help minimize damage.
This advanced system monitors the severity of an impact, the presence of a front passenger and seat-belt use, and controls airbag inflation accordingly.
NOTE: For maximum protection, always wear your seat belt.
Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) make it easy and convenient to secure child seats.
In the event of certain rear collisions, the active headrests move forward, helping to reduce the likelihood of neck injury.
In the event of certain collisions, pretensioners are designed to tighten the seatbelts to help to reduce the likelihood of injury.
